Our Home

Olentium is based on the Maltese Archipelago on islands at the near centre of the Mediterranean. Once the crossroads of ancient trade routes shipping precious oils, silks and spices, the Maltese Islands have been influenced for millennia by Mediterranean cultures thousands of miles east and west.

Home for nearly 300 years to the Hospitaller Order of the Knights of Malta, the islands saw advances in medical care unrivalled in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries. Some 200 years later, Malta would be called the ‘Nurse of the Mediterranean’ for its role in caring for the injured in World War II.

Today, the small archaepelago is home to numerous spa and wellness hotels. Surrounded by some of the clearest, deepest waters of the Mediterranean, it is also an island sought out for by modern-day travelers for its inherent sense of well-being and relaxed, but very much contemporary Mediterranean lifestyle.

The Founder

An expat in the Mediterranean for over 25 years, Olentium founder Liz Grech was originally a trained journalist and digital communications’ specialist. Pivoting interests and now careers, Liz gained a diploma in organic cosmetic formulation with Formula Botanica, and trained in natural perfumery under leading industry perfumer Karen Gilbert, and with Perfumer’s World.

She launched Olentium to merge her life-long passion for fragrance with her desire to share the sense of wellness inherent in Mediterranean island life. Liz designs fragrances and Olentium bodycare in her atelier-lab in a Maltese village house.
