Have you ever wondered how it is achieved and coordinated? They have a plan. In my hall, I have an architect's drawing of Piazza di Spagna which was commissioned to plan the colours permissible. The whole historic centre of Rome was mapped in this way.
While the city has its chaotic charm, the plasterwork is painted with precision yet lets the imperfections of the old buildings show through.
The balance between planning and unpredictability seems also to underpin how one makes perfumes. There is a master plan, but natural ingredients will just do their own magical thing in a blend. As in Rome, in perfumery one must simply go with the flow.
